Nakambala Sugar Estate Factory (Zambia)

Weather…

The Nakambala Sugar Estate in Mazabuka is the heart of Zambia's sugar industry and stands as one of the largest sugarcane plantations in Africa. Established in 1964, the estate is operated by Zambia Sugar PLC, a subsidiary of the Illovo Sugar Group. The vast area encompasses thousands of hectares of irrigated land on the Kafue Flats, where sugarcane is cultivated under good climatic conditions. The onsite factory in Mazabuka processes the cane into raw sugar, white sugar, and specialty products such as syrups and molasses for both domestic and export markets. Extensive expansions in recent years have boosted production capacity to over 450,000 tonnes of sugar annually. Nakambala is the primary employer in the Mazabuka District and supports thousands of small-scale farmers through integrated outgrower schemes. The facility also features its own power station that utilizes bagasse (sugarcane residue) to generate electricity for the estate and the national grid.
