Kalomo Administrator's House (Zambia)

Weather…

The Administrator's House in Kalomo is a significant historical landmark from the era when Kalomo served as the first capital of North-Western Rhodesia. Built around 1903-1904 for Robert Coryndon, the territory's Administrator, the house functioned as the hub of colonial governance for several years. Kalomo remained the administrative center until 1911, when the capital was relocated to Livingstone to take advantage of better railway links. The building is one of the oldest surviving brick structures in Zambia, showcasing early colonial residential architecture designed with wide verandas to cope with the tropical climate. It has been designated as a National Monument and houses displays related to the early administrative history of the country. The site symbolizes the beginnings of modern state structures in present-day Zambia and is for those interested in the political development of the region during the turn of the century.
