Hoa Lư Ancient Capital (Vietnam)

Weather…

Hoa Lư was the first capital of independent Vietnam in the 10th and 11th centuries, following the liberation from Chinese rule. Under the Đinh and Early Lê dynasties, the city served as the political, economic, and cultural center of the Đại Cồ Việt kingdom from 968 to 1010. The location was chosen for its strategic advantages: the surrounding limestone mountains formed natural fortress walls that only needed to be defended at a few narrow passages. In 1010, King Lý Thái Tổ decided to move the capital to Thăng Long (modern-day Hanoi), after which Hoa Lư gradually lost its importance. Today, what remains of the once-magnificent city are primarily the temples of Kings Đinh Tiên Hoàng and Lê Đại Hạnh, built on the foundations of the original palaces. The site is part of the Tràng An Landscape Complex and represents a decisive era in Vietnamese nation-building. Annual festivals honor the historical rulers and preserve the memory of the country's early independence.
