House of the Iron Windows
The Casa de las Ventanas de Hierro (House of the Iron Windows) is one of the most splendid examples of civil colonial architecture in Coro, Venezuela. Built in 1764 by José Garcés de la Colina, the building is distinguished by its exceptional facade decorated with wrought iron bars imported from Seville. At that time, iron was a rare and expensive luxury good in the colony, highlighting the wealth of its original owners. The house features an imposing entrance leading to vast internal courtyards, following the stylistic traits of Andalusian architecture. During the War of Independence, the building served as a meeting place for influential figures in the city. Today, the house operates as a museum showcasing the daily life of 18th-century aristocratic families and is an integral part of the UNESCO-protected historic center of Coro.
