Majanji Port is located in Busia District, southeastern Uganda, on the shores of Lake Victoria, near the Kenyan border. Historically, the port has been a significant hub for cross-border trade and the region's fishing industry. In the first half of the 20th century, it served as an important node for transporting raw materials from eastern Uganda to Kenya. Its geographic location made Majanji a strategic point for monitoring vessel traffic and cultural exchange between the residents of both countries. While the port's economic importance has declined in recent decades compared to larger facilities, local fishing remains a core economic driver. Current government plans include revitalizing the infrastructure to strengthen inland trade and improve connectivity to regional markets in East Africa.
