Murchison Falls (Uganda)

Weather…

Murchison Falls, also known as Kabalega Falls, is a spectacular waterfall on the Victoria Nile in Uganda. It is located at the heart of Murchison Falls National Park, the country's largest protected area. At the falls, the mighty Nile River forces its way through a narrow gorge only 7 meters wide before plunging 43 meters, creating a thunderous roar and a permanent rainbow. This bottleneck creates one of the most powerful flows of water anywhere in the world. Below the falls, the river widens into a tranquil stream, lined with palm forests and abundant with wildlife. Boat trips to the base of the falls are a popular activity, offering exceptional opportunities to view hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and a vast array of birds, including the rare shoebill stork. The falls were encountered by explorer Samuel Baker in 1864 and named after Roderick Murchison, then president of the Royal Geographical Society.
