Ban Li On is a small settlement on Koh Phra Thong, an island in Phang Nga province known for its extraordinary ecology. Unlike most Thai islands, the interior of Koh Phra Thong is characterized by a vast savanna reminiscent of Africa. This flat landscape with its tall, golden grass and scattered Melaleuca trees provides a visual experience unparalleled in Southeast Asia. The island's coast is equally spectacular. Golden Buddha Beach (Hat Phra Thong) is a long, pristine stretch of fine sand that owes its name to a local legend about a buried Buddha statue. The water here is crystal clear and well-suited for snorkeling, especially near the small island of Ko Pling, which can be reached almost on foot at low tide. The beaches are important nesting sites for sea turtles, highlighting the island's ecological value. Life in Ban Li On is simple and nature-oriented. There is no mass tourism, and most accommodations are eco-friendly resorts. The island is car-free; movement is on foot, by bicycle, or in modified tractors. Those who come here seek absolute silence, the observation of rare birds, and the feeling of being at the end of the world. Access is by longtail boat from the mainland (Khura Buri Pier).
