Ulriksdal Palace (Sweden)

Weather…

Ulriksdal Palace (Ulriksdals slott) is situated north of Stockholm on the shores of Edsviken, within the Royal National City Park. Originally built in the 1640s as 'Jacobsdal' for Field Marshal Jacob De la Gardie, the estate was later acquired by Queen Hedvig Eleonora. It was renamed Ulriksdal in the late 17th century in honor of Prince Ulric, following his early passing. The palace's architecture has transitioned over the centuries from late Renaissance to Baroque and Empire styles, reflecting the tastes of various monarchs. A key highlight of the ensemble is the Orangery, which now houses one of Sweden's most significant collections of sculpture. The grounds also feature the 'Confidencen' Rococo theater and an extensive landscaped park. Ulriksdal served as a favored summer residence for many Swedish royals, particularly King Gustaf VI Adolf, and remains a prime example of Swedish royal building and garden heritage.
