Visby (Sweden)

Weather…

Visby is the best-preserved medieval city in Scandinavia and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1995. Known as the 'city of roses and ruins,' it is famous for its remarkably intact 3.4-kilometer defensive wall, the Ringmuren, which dates back to the 13th century. The town's narrow cobblestone streets are lined with historic stone houses and more than a dozen medieval church ruins that tell the story of its wealthy Hanseatic past. During the summer months, Visby transforms into an animated hub of activity, culminating in the Medieval Week (Medeltidsveckan) in August, where thousands of people dress in period costumes. The local gastronomy is a highlight, featuring Gotlandic specialties like saffron pancake with dewberry jam and locally brewed ale. Beyond the walls, the island of Gotland has unique limestone formations called rauks and sandy beaches that make it Sweden's premier holiday destination.
