Haninge is a versatile municipality in southern Stockholm County, acting as a gateway between modern urbanity and the rugged beauty of the Stockholm archipelago. A large portion of its territory is occupied by Tyresta National Park, which preserves some of the most significant primeval forest in southern Sweden. Historically, the area is noted for Dalarö, which served as a crucial customs port for ships bound for Stockholm during the 17th and 18th centuries and remains a popular tourist destination today. Haninge is also home to the Muskö Naval Base, an extraordinary military facility carved deep into the coastal granite. The administrative heart of the municipality, Handen, has evolved since the 1960s into a major regional center for commerce and services. Haninge's geography is defined by its extensive coastline and numerous islands, such as Utö and Ornö, which are integral to the outer archipelago. Surrounded by deep forests and exceptionally clear water, this beach in the Rudan recreation area near Haninge is an idyllic destination for nature lovers. The quiet atmosphere on the lakeshore invites you to dip your toes in the cool water after a brief hike. Here, one can wonderfully switch off and let their gaze wander over the gentle, rolling waves. Packing a backpack with refreshing snacks makes a stay in this green oasis absolutely first-rate.
On the northern shore of Lake Rudan lies this exceptionally welcoming little sandy beach, which is often affectionately called Lillrudan. This very familiar and manageable bathing spot is especially highly appreciated by families with small children. Between the edge of the forest and the lakeshore, everyone can quickly find a beautiful spot for their towel. On warm weekends, it is highly advisable to leave the car behind and travel here by bicycle.
