Tjärö is an oasis of tranquility in the Blekinge archipelago in southeastern Sweden. The entire island is a nature reserve and provides the well-suited setting for what many call the 'true' Swedish idyll. The buildings consist almost exclusively of lovingly restored red wooden houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, now serving as guesthouses, a hostel, and a restaurant. The island is known for its diverse nature: from lush flower meadows in the interior to rugged cliffs along the coast. A special highlight for thrill-seekers is the 'Tjärö Jump,' a 12-meter-high cliff from which you can dive into the clear waters of the Baltic Sea. There are numerous marked hiking trails that circle the entire island in less than two hours, as well as opportunities for kayaking and rowing. Visitors reach Tjärö by ferry from Järnavik. There are no cars on the island, which enhances the sense of deep relaxation. The waterfront restaurant is known for its excellent Swedish home cooking and sunset views. Tjärö is a convenient spot for families and nature lovers looking for a getaway in a postcard-first-rate atmosphere. Especially during Midsummer, the island is a popular location for traditional Swedish festivities.
