Stenshuvud National Park (Sweden)

Weather…

Stenshuvud National Park is located on the eastern coast of Skåne County and was established in 1986. Spanning only 3.9 square kilometers, it is one of Sweden's smallest national parks but is exceptionally rich in biodiversity. The park is named after Stenshuvud, a 97-meter-high granite hill that rises sharply from the surrounding coastal plains and has historically served as a vital landmark for sailors. The vegetation is dominated by lush deciduous forests, with hornbeam being the most prevalent species, complemented by oak and beech. In wetter areas, alder carrs and rare orchid species can be found. Geologically, the hill is a horst formed by tectonic movements. At its summit lie the remains of an Iron Age hillfort (fornborg) dating back to the 5th or 6th century. The park also features one of Sweden's most beautiful sandy beaches and provides a habitat for rare species like the European tree frog and the hazel dormouse. A modern visitor center, Naturum, provides insights into the regional geology and the park's rich cultural history.
