Söderåsen National Park (Sweden)

Weather…

Söderåsen National Park is located in Skåne and was established in 2001 to protect one of the largest contiguous broadleaf forest areas in Northern Europe. The landscape is characterized by deep canyons, such as the Skäralid gorge, and impressive rock formations shaped during the last ice ages. A prominent viewpoint is Kopparhatten, which rises 90 meters above the valley floor, offering expansive views over the forested hills. The park is home to a rich variety of plants and animals, particularly species that depend on old deadwood, such as rare mosses, fungi, and insects. Lake Odensjön, a circular lake in a cirque valley, is surrounded by numerous legends and is a popular hiking destination. Söderåsen features a well-developed network of trails for hikers of all levels and is part of the Skåneleden long-distance hiking trail. The dense beech forests give the area a special atmosphere in every season, from fresh green in spring to lively colors in autumn. The national park is also an important research area for forestry and biodiversity.
