Oskarshamn Nuclear Power Plant (Sweden)

Weather…

The Oskarshamn Nuclear Power Plant is situated on the Simpevarp peninsula, approximately 30 kilometers north of the town of Oskarshamn on the Swedish east coast. It was Sweden's first commercial nuclear power facility, with construction commencing in 1966 and the first unit commissioned in 1972. Currently, only the O3 reactor remains in operation, which is one of the world's largest boiling water reactors with an installed capacity of about 1,450 megawatts. The plant plays a vital role in ensuring the stability of the southern Swedish power grid and contributing significantly to the national energy mix. Beyond electricity generation, the site hosts the Central Interim Storage Facility for Spent Nuclear Fuel (CLAB), a critical component of Sweden's nuclear waste management system. Operated by OKG Aktiebolag, owned by Uniper and Fortum, the facility is a cornerstone of the regional economy, providing high-skilled employment and supporting numerous local businesses.
