Åreskutan is a 1,420-meter-high mountain located in Åre Municipality in Jämtland and is considered one of Sweden's most famous mountains. It serves as the centerpiece of one of Northern Europe's largest alpine ski resorts, with a tourism tradition dating back to the 19th century. The opening of the Åre Bergbana (funicular) in 1910 marked a milestone for organized mountain tourism in the region. Historically, the mountain was also significant for copper mining, with the Fröå mines on the eastern slope operating until the early 20th century. From the upper station of the cable car, visitors can enjoy visibility of over 100 kilometers on clear days, reaching well into the Norwegian mountains. Åreskutan has hosted the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships multiple times, most recently in 2007 and 2019, cementing its status in the international winter sports arena.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.

Tucked beneath the Åreskutan mountain, Åre strand invites visitors to enjoy a natural escape in Sweden. The combination of an alpine backdrop and a quiet shoreline creates a uniquely relaxing atmosphere. Besides swimming on warmer days, the area is wonderful for walking and taking in the fresh Swedish air. Stopping by makes for an excellent addition to any outdoor itinerary in the region.
