Sylarna (Sweden)

Weather…

Sylarna is a prominent high-mountain massif situated on the border between Sweden and Norway in Jämtland County. The highest elevation in the massif is Storsylen, reaching 1,762 meters, with its peak located just across the border on the Norwegian side. The area is renowned for its alpine topography, featuring sharp peaks and deep, glacially carved U-shaped valleys like Sylensdalen. Sylarna is a major hub for mountain tourism in Sweden and is home to one of the oldest mountain stations of the Swedish Tourist Association (STF), established in 1897. Geologically, the mountains consist primarily of crystalline schists formed during the Caledonian orogeny hundreds of millions of years ago. The region provides a habitat for arctic flora and fauna, such as the ptarmigan and arctic fox, and serves as an important grazing area for the reindeer herds of the local Sami communities.
