Weather…

Geyersvlijt is a northern neighborhood of Paramaribo, developed on the site of a former plantation of the same name. Established in the 18th century, the plantation was primarily used for the cultivation of coffee and sugarcane and was named after its original owner, Geyer. Following the abolition of slavery in 1863, the plantation's economic viability declined, leading to its eventual subdivision. In the 1950s and 60s, the area began its transition into a residential district to accommodate the growing population of the capital. Today, Geyersvlijt is a densely populated area featuring a mix of housing and commercial enterprises. The canal systems, originally engineered for field drainage, still characterize the local geography. The neighborhood stands as a prime example of the transformation of colonial agricultural lands into modern urban infrastructure.
