Hanging Houses of Cuenca (Spain)

Weather…

The Hanging Houses (Casas Colgadas) of Cuenca are an architectural marvel and the city's most fascinating landmark. These historic 14th-century buildings were masterfully constructed directly into the rock face of the steep Huécar gorge, with their characteristic wooden balconies seemingly floating weightlessly over the deep abyss. Originally, the entire rim of the gorge was lined with such structures, but today only three of these unique houses remain. Inside, the buildings impress visitors with a labyrinth of stairs, wooden beams, and asymmetrical rooms. Today, the Casas Colgadas house the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art and a renowned restaurant, making them not only a historical but also a major cultural attraction in the Castile-La Mancha region.
