Gavà is a characterful Catalan town in the province of Barcelona that provides the best of two worlds: sea and mountains. The town is divided into two main areas: Gavà Mar, known for its long sandy beaches and lively promenade, and the town centre, located at the foot of the Garraf Massif. A unique highlight is the prehistoric Gavà Mines, an archaeological park where you can visit the oldest gallery mines in Europe. Culinarily, Gavà is famous for its asparagus, to which a festival is dedicated every spring. The location of Gavà is extremely advantageous. The town is only a few kilometres from Barcelona-El Prat International Airport and is excellently connected to the centre of Barcelona by trains (Rodalies) and buses. This makes Gavà a well-suited base for exploring the entire region of Catalonia. The best time to visit is from May to September, when the weather is great for the beach. The asparagus festival in spring (April/May) is a special cultural and gastronomic experience. Autumn is also a good time for visits, with milder temperatures handy for hiking in the Garraf Park.
