Ebro Delta Natural Park (Spain)

Weather…

The Ebro Delta Natural Park in Catalonia is the region's most significant and extensive wetland, and one of the most important aquatic ecosystems in the entire western Mediterranean. Where the mighty Ebro River flows into the sea, a flat, fertile alluvial plain has formed over millennia, impressing visitors with its complex mosaic of canals, lagoons, vast sandy beaches, and immense rice fields. These rice paddies, which drastically change color with the seasons, are not only economically crucial but also provide sustenance for an enormous diversity of birdlife. Over 300 different bird species, including a spectacular permanent colony of greater flamingos, utilize the delta as a nesting and wintering ground. Although nature thrives here, the flat delta is massively threatened by coastal erosion, inland dams reducing sediment flow, and the global rise in sea levels.
