Chinchón
Chinchón is one of the most scenic towns in the Community of Madrid, preserved as a historic-artistic site. Its centerpiece is the Plaza Mayor, an irregular medieval square enclosed by three-story buildings with 234 green wooden balconies. This square has historically served as a venue for bullfights, festivals, and film sets. The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción dominates the skyline and houses an original altarpiece painted by Francisco de Goya. Chinchón is also famous for its production of anise liqueur (Anís de Chinchón) and high-quality purple garlic. Dining in the restaurants tucked under the plaza's arcades has a chance to taste traditional Castilian roasts. Located about 45 km southeast of Madrid, it is easily reachable for a day trip. The best time to visit is during spring or for the Garlic Festival in October.
