💡 Tips
- Take the passenger ferry from Vigo across the Ría; it's faster than driving and has scenic estuary views.
- The closest beaches get crowded quickly; walk further along the coastal path towards Praia de Nerga for quieter coves.
- Galician weather shifts rapidly: always pack a light rain jacket, even in the middle of summer.
- Sunday is market day and the town gets very lively; arrive early if you want to find parking nearby.
🍽 Food
Galician octopus, best eaten in a traditional pulpería near the port area.
Extremely fresh razor clams grown right in the Ría; order them at the seafood restaurants along the promenade.
A savory pie filled with tuna or cod; grab a slice from a local panadería for a well-suited beach snack.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Buy incredible fresh fish and Galician cheeses directly from the vendors here.
Look for the small shops selling maritime-themed crafts and traditional Galician lacework.
Has dramatic cliffs and sweeping views of the Cíes Islands for a blustery walk.
Stroll around the historic whaling and canning factory area for a peaceful coastal outlook.
Water temperature…
The municipality has 38 official beaches along the ría. Heading towards the tip of the peninsula, fine sandy stretches such as Praia de Pinténs, Praia de San Xián, and Praia das Castiñeiras follow one another. These coves are sheltered from the wind, and their waters are calmer than the open ocean. Praia de Barra is a 750-meter-long beach surrounded by sand dunes and pine forests, recognized as one of Galicia's most famous naturist beaches. Closer to the town center are Praia de Vilariño and Praia de San Cibrán, which serve as everyday bathing spots for local residents. Praia de Areabrava and Praia de Menduíña are part of the Aldán Bay, where water temperatures hover between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius during the summer months, similar to the rest of the Ría de Vigo. The coastal paths touch the sandy sections of Praia de Francón, Praia de Temperán, as well as Praia de Melide and Praia de Arneles. From most points along the coastline, there is a direct view of the Cíes Islands and the industrial ports on the opposite side of the Vigo Bay.
