Alella is an easy on the eye village in Catalonia, just 15 kilometers north of Barcelona, set between the coast and the Serralada de Marina mountain range. The village is best known for its wines with their own Designation of Origin (DO), with Alella DO being one of the smallest and oldest wine regions in Spain. Local wineries, some of which are architectural gems of the Modernista style, offer wine tastings and cellar tours where wines made from the Pansa Blanca grape (the local Xarel·lo) are the stars. Beyond wine, Alella is home to a rich cultural heritage with Modernista buildings and an appealing old town. Due to its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, visitors can also enjoy the nearby beaches. The best time to visit is during spring and autumn when the weather is pleasant for exploring the vineyards. It is easily accessible from Barcelona by train and bus, making it a well-suited destination for a relaxing day away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
