Aguadulce, a lively district of Roquetas de Mar in the province of Almería, stretches along the Mediterranean coast at the foot of the arid Sierra de Gádor mountain range. Once a modest fishing village, it began a rapid transformation in the 1960s, becoming one of Spain's first designated Centers of National Tourist Interest. The sandy beach, spanning over two kilometers with a gentle slope into the water, is flanked by a wide, palm-lined promenade that serves as the hub of local social life in the evenings. The marina, opened in 1982, provides moorings for hundreds of boats and is surrounded by numerous restaurants and tapas bars. It is the excellent place to sample regional seafood specialties, particularly the local fried fish (pescaíto frito) and red prawns. The warm, low-rainfall microclimate makes the settlement an attractive year-round destination. In addition to water sports, visitors can easily take short trips to explore the nearby Tabernas Desert, the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, or the massive Moorish Alcazaba fortress in the nearby city of Almería.
The most pleasant time to visit is May, Jun, Sep.
