Historically, Dangjin is of great importance as the cradle of Korean Catholicism; the Solmoe Holy Ground marks the birthplace of Andrew Kim Taegon, the first Korean-born priest. Its coastal location led to the creation of the Sapgyoho Hamsang Park, a maritime park featuring decommissioned warships that serves as a popular tourist destination.
