Anmyeondo
Anmyeondo is an island connected to the mainland by a bridge, offering a great escape from urban life. It is world-famous for its unique pine forests, which have been protected since the Goryeo Dynasty and whose wood was once used to build royal palaces. The Anmyeondo National Forest invites visitors to take relaxing walks under tall, fragrant trees, providing a soothing atmosphere of tranquility. Arguably the most famous spot on the island is Kkotji Beach. Here you can find the iconic "Grandmother" and "Grandfather" rocks (Halmi and Harabi Rocks), which look particularly spectacular at low tide and are considered one of the best places in Korea to watch the sunset. Culinarily, the island is known for "Ganjang-gejang" (crabs marinated in soy sauce) and "Gegukji" (a traditional crab stew with kimchi), which can be enjoyed in the numerous restaurants along the coast. The island is accessible from Seoul in about three hours by car or bus. The best time to visit is summer for beach activities, but autumn and spring also offer pleasant temperatures for hiking in the forest. Anmyeondo combines maritime beauty with historical nature and is for anyone exploring the west coast of Korea.
