Citrusdal
Citrusdal is a flourishing agricultural town situated at the base of the Cederberg Mountains in the fertile Olifants River Valley. As its name suggests, the town is the center of a major citrus-producing region, and the surrounding landscape is dominated by lush orchards. During the blossom season, the entire valley is filled with the sweet scent of citrus. One of the town's most famous attractions is 'The Baths', a historic natural hot spring resort located just outside of town that has been in operation since 1739. The area is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, offering world-class hiking, mountain biking, and rock climbing in the nearby Cederberg Wilderness. The Olifants River itself is popular for canoeing and fishing. Citrusdal is also known for its production of high-quality Rooibos tea, honey, and local wines. The rugged sandstone formations of the region provide a dramatic contrast to the green valley floor, creating a landscape that is both beautiful and diverse. Located on the N7 national road, Citrusdal is roughly a two-hour drive from Cape Town. The town is particularly beautiful in late winter and early spring (August and September) when the citrus trees are in bloom and the famous Namaqualand wildflowers begin to appear. It features a peaceful rural getaway with a focus on natural health and outdoor activity.
