Berbera Port (Somalia)

Weather…

Berbera Port is located on the Gulf of Aden coast in the Republic of Somaliland. It is a deepwater port with five berths capable of handling vessels up to 250 meters in length, with water depths between 12 and 16 meters. Following modernization by DP World of the United Arab Emirates, which secured a 30-year concession in 2017, the port's annual cargo capacity has increased to over 10 million tonnes. It serves as a key trade hub for northern Somalia and the Ethiopian hinterland; Ethiopia imports a significant portion of its goods through the Berbera corridor. In 2024, a new container terminal was inaugurated, further boosting capacity. The port is strategically vital for regional trade and competes with Djibouti and Mogadishu. It is also a key asset for Somaliland's economy and its quest for international recognition.
