Adam Park Battlefield (Singapore)

Weather…

The Adam Park Battlefield is a critical historical site in Singapore, marking the location of some of the fiercest combat during the Japanese invasion in February 1942. The 1st Battalion of the Cambridgeshire Regiment fought a desperate defensive action here against the Imperial Japanese Army just days before the fall of Singapore. The battle was characterized by intense house-to-house fighting within the estate's colonial bungalows, many of which are still standing today. Following the Allied surrender, Adam Park was converted into a prisoner-of-war (POW) camp, housing British and Australian troops. In recent years, the 'Adam Park Project' led by archaeologist Jon Cooper has uncovered thousands of artifacts, ranging from military badges and ammunition to personal belongings of the soldiers. These archaeological findings have been instrumental in reconstructing the detailed narrative of the defense. Today, Adam Park is a serene residential area, yet it remains a site of deep historical reflection, preserved through informative displays and heritage tours.
