Church of Saint Andrew in Serravalle (San Marino)

Weather…

The Church of Saint Andrew in Serravalle is an outstanding example of early 19th-century neoclassical architecture in San Marino. The current house of worship was constructed between 1824 and 1828 according to the plans of renowned architect Antonio Serra, built upon the foundations of a much older medieval chapel. The facade of the church is characterized by its harmonic proportions and the use of local sandstone. Inside, the church houses a significant relic of Saint Andrew the Apostle, regarded as a precious spiritual heritage of the community. The interior features several side altars with elaborate paintings and a magnificent 19th-century organ. As the largest parish church in Serravalle, the republic's most populous town, it plays a central role in religious festivities and state ceremonies. Extensive restoration work in 1973 helped secure the structural stability and artistic splendor of the interior for future generations.
