Poggio di Faetano (San Marino)

Weather…

Poggio di Faetano is the central hill upon which the main settlement of the municipality of Faetano is built. Standing at an elevation of approximately 360 meters, it dominates the surrounding landscape in eastern San Marino. The site has been inhabited since antiquity, but it gained historical significance in the 15th century when it was one of the last territories to be incorporated into the republic. The townscape is defined by the church of San Paolo Apostolo and the 'Casa del Castello,' which are prominent architectural landmarks on the hill. The surrounding slopes display a mosaic of small agricultural plots and natural erosional gullies known as Calanchi. Geologically, the hill consists of Pliocene sedimentary rocks, which are important for the settlement's stability. From Poggio di Faetano, there is a magnificent view of the nearby Italian town of Coriano and the Montefeltro mountains. Today, the Poggio is a quiet residential area that has preserved its village structure and close link to agriculture.
