Borgo Maggiore Cable Car
The San Marino Cable Car connects the town of Borgo Maggiore with the historic capital city perched on the summit of Mount Titano. Originally inaugurated in 1959, the system underwent a major modernization in 1995 to accommodate increasing tourist traffic and improve safety standards. The journey takes approximately two minutes, covering a horizontal distance of 338 meters and an elevation gain of 166 meters. During the ride, passengers enjoy spectacular panoramic views across the entire republic, the surrounding Italian countryside, and the distant Adriatic coast. Beyond its role as a tourist attraction, the cable car serves as vital infrastructure for daily commuters between the upper and lower towns. The lower station in Borgo Maggiore is adjacent to the historic marketplace, which is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site. Each of the two cabins can hold up to 80 passengers, allowing for high capacity during the peak holiday season.
