Samamea is an easy on the eye village located in Fagaloa Bay on the northeastern coast of Upolu, a region recognized on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list for its exceptional blend of cultural and natural significance. The village is situated at the foot of steep mountains that rise almost vertically from the sea, covered in dense primary rainforest. Geographically, Fagaloa Bay is one of the deepest and most dramatic fjords in Samoa. The economy of Samamea is based on mountain-slope agriculture and fishing within the sheltered waters of the bay. The village is noted for its tranquility and the preservation of ancient Samoan traditions, which remain less influenced by modern changes compared to other parts of the island. The community places a high priority on protecting its natural resources, particularly the vital mountain water springs. Due to the challenging topography, access routes are limited, granting Samamea an exclusive and untouched atmosphere.
