Snagov is one of the most prominent tourist communes in Ilfov County, located about 35 kilometers north of Bucharest. The settlement developed around Snagov Lake, the largest natural lake in Romania, covering an area of approximately 600 hectares. The main attraction is the Snagov Monastery, founded in the 14th century on a small island within the lake. It holds significant historical weight as the alleged burial site of Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Țepeș), the historical figure who inspired the legend of Dracula. The region is surrounded by dense forests, designated as protected areas for the conservation of local flora and fauna. Since the 1930s, Snagov has been an exclusive resort for the political elite and wealthy residents of the capital. Today, the area has various water sports facilities, luxury villas, and recreational complexes, serving as a key weekend getaway destination.
