Găneasa is located in the eastern part of Ilfov County and includes the villages of Găneasa, Cozieni, Piteasca, Moara Domnească, and Șindrilița. The region is traversed by the Pasărea River, which creates scenic lakeside landscapes in the area. Historically, the settlement is famous for the Pasărea Monastery, founded in 1813, which is one of the most significant nunneries near Bucharest. The area was once part of the ancient Vlăsia Forests, and remnants such as the Piteasca Forest are now appreciated spots for walking and nature observation. In Moara Domnească village, the 'Saint Nicholas' church stands as a 19th-century historical monument. In recent years, the commune has grown in importance as a residential area, offering a quiet rural atmosphere with easy access to the city via the DN2 national road. The local economy relies on agriculture and increasingly on small commercial enterprises.
