Triumphal Arch Bucharest (Romania)

Weather…

The Triumphal Arch in Bucharest is a landmark monument commemorating Romania's victory in World War I and the Great Union of 1918. The first temporary arch was built in 1878 following independence, while a wooden structure replaced it in 1922 for the coronation of King Ferdinand and Queen Marie. The current 27-meter tall edifice was constructed between 1935 and 1936 according to the designs of architect Petre Antonescu, using reinforced concrete and Deva granite. Inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, it features elaborate sculptures and reliefs created by renowned Romanian artists like Ion Jalea and Cornel Medrea. The inscriptions celebrate the royal family and pivotal events in national history, reinforcing the arch as a symbol of unity. Today, the arch houses a small museum and its top terrace provides panoramic views of the historic Kiseleff Road. It remains the traditional site for military parades held every year on Romania's National Day.
