Salir do Porto is located on the beautiful Costa de Prata (Silver Coast) in Portugal, just south of São Martinho do Porto. The village is characterized by its maritime history and the dramatic natural scenery that combines the Atlantic Ocean with rolling hills. The protected, shell-shaped basin of the bay, in contrast to the often rough waves of the open coast, provides remarkably calm waters. This sheltered location makes the town one of the most popular destinations for a relaxing family holiday in Portugal. The absolute landmark and main attraction of the place is the Duna de Salir do Porto, the largest sand dune in Portugal. This natural formation slopes steeply down to the water and features wide-open panoramic views over the entire bay. The dune is not only a spectacular photo subject but also an adventure playground: many visitors climb up to slide down in the soft sand. The adjacent beach gives fine, white sand and shallow, warm water, well-suited for safe swimming. In addition to beach fun, Salir do Porto has ruins of old customs houses and a freshwater spring that rises directly on the beach and is attributed with healing powers. The characterful cobbled streets of the village invite you to stroll past traditional Portuguese houses. The local restaurants serve excellent seafood, including fresh sea bass, mussels, and traditional bacalhau (cod). It's a great blend of natural wonders, culture, and relaxation.
