Wolin Cliffs (Poland)

Weather…

The spectacularly dramatic Wolin Cliffs constitute the undisputed maritime highlight of the Wolin National Park located beautifully along the Polish Baltic coast. Over a remarkably continuous length of roughly 15 kilometers, the heavily deeply fissured, Ice Age moraine hills abruptly break off almost completely vertically into the wild sea, firmly forming the absolute highest cliff system in all of Poland. The most overwhelmingly impressive viewpoint is unequivocally Gosań, which, at a towering 93 meters strictly above sea level, proudly represents the highest cliff formation on the entire coast and provides wide-open panoramic views vastly across the Pomeranian Bay. The highly constant, absolutely relentless coastal erosion profoundly driven by Baltic Sea waves and incredibly fierce winter storms heavily undermines the notably soft rock, causing the coastline to rapidly retreat inland by nearly a full meter every single year. This incredibly intense geological dynamic thoroughly regularly uproots the exceptionally ancient beech and pine forests clinging to the rim, leaving their heavily fallen trunks to rest dramatically on the highly narrow beach below. The extremely dense forests perched delicately on the crumbling cliff edges additionally reliably serve as a heavily strictly protected sanctuary and entirely vital breeding ground for the majestic white-tailed eagle, the incredibly proud heraldic symbol of the national park.
