Pszczyna Castle (Poland)

Weather…

Pszczyna Castle, often called the 'Polish Versailles', is a grand residential palace with roots dating back to the 15th century. Originally a Gothic stronghold, it underwent several reconstructions in Renaissance and Baroque styles before achieving its current Neo-Baroque appearance between 1870 and 1876. The redesign was commissioned by the Princes of Pless (Hochberg family) and executed by French architect Hippolyte Destailleur. Uniquely for Central Europe, about 80% of the original interior furnishings and artworks survived World War II, making it one of the most authentic palace museums in Poland. The castle was the home of the famous Princess Daisy of Pless, a prominent socialite and philanthropist. During World War I, the castle served as the headquarters for the German General Staff. It is surrounded by a vast 156-hectare English-style landscape park, which includes historic stables and a bison reserve.
