💡 Tips
- Take the SKM commuter train from Warsaw for an exceptionally cheap, direct, and hassle-free arrival right into the center.
- Remember to look up while walking-the intricately carved wooden verandas of the 'Świdermajer' houses are often tucked behind tall pines.
- The surrounding pine forests give the area a unique microclimate; take a deep breath, as the air was historically used to cure tuberculosis.
- Pack a strong mosquito repellent during the summer months, especially if you plan to walk near the river or deep into the woods.
- Renting a bicycle is by far the most efficient way to track down the scattered historical wooden villas across the area.
🍽 Food
Classic Polish filled dumplings, served most authentically and affordably at a local, no-frills milk bar (Bar Mleczny).
A toasted open-faced half-baguette topped with mushrooms, cheese, and ketchup, a popular street food near the station.
Traditional Polish glazed doughnuts, ideally bursting with wild rose petal jam, found at classic local bakeries (Cukiernia).

Otwock is located southeast of Warsaw, on the edge of the Masovian Landscape Park, known for its special microclimate and pine forests. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it developed into a popular spa and health resort, attracting the Warsaw elite. This era left behind a unique architectural legacy: the Świdermajer style. These wooden villas, designed by Michał Elwiro Andriolli, are characterized by ornate verandas and rich ornamentation. Although many have fallen into disrepair, efforts are being made to preserve this unique heritage. Today, Otwock is a quiet town offering an escape from the bustle of Warsaw. It is easily accessible from the capital thanks to good suburban rail connections. A visit in spring or summer is handy for enjoying the surrounding nature and the unique architecture.
