Chan Chan (Peru)

Weather…

Chan Chan, located on the desert coast near Trujillo, is the largest adobe city in the world and the former capital of the powerful Chimú Empire. This sprawling archaeological complex covers 20 square kilometers and was once home to over 30,000 people. The city is a masterpiece of desert architecture, consisting of nine massive walled citadels, or ciudadelas, each serving as the palace and burial site for a Chimú king. The walls are decorated with intricate mud-relief carvings of sea birds, fish, and geometric patterns, reflecting the importance of the ocean to the Chimú people. Despite the threats of erosion and El Niño weather patterns, Chan Chan remains a majestic symbol of pre-Inca coastal civilization and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
