💡 Tips
- Border crossing to Bela Vista (Brazil) is fluid, but if traveling further inland, ensure you complete passport formalities.
- The language here is a unique mix of Guaraní, Spanish, and Portuguese ('Portuñol'); knowing basic words in any of them helps.
- Both the Paraguayan Guaraní (PYG) and the Brazilian Real (BRL) are widely accepted in shops and markets.
- The climate is intensely hot all year round. Schedule outdoor activities for the early morning or late afternoon.

Bella Vista Norte, a town in the Amambay Department of northern Paraguay, lies on the bank of the Apa River right on the border with Brazil opposite the Brazilian town of Bela Vista in Mato Grosso do Sul. It was founded in 1909 and is one of the oldest frontier towns in the region. With around 15 000 inhabitants Bella Vista Norte is a small but strategically important border town, serving as the gateway to the sparsely populated Sierra de Amambay range. Its economy relies on cattle ranching, soybean farming, yerba mate cultivation and cross-border trade with Brazil. Bella Vista Norte is surrounded by dense forests and the rolling hills of the Sierra de Amambay, a region known for indigenous rock paintings, caves and rich Pajagua heritage. Via the bridge to Bela Vista there is a direct link to the Brazilian market, fuelling cross-border trade in consumer goods and agricultural products. Notable sights include the historic parish church, the central plaza and the cross-border market.
