Badshahi Mosque (Pakistan)

Weather…

The Badshahi Mosque in Lahore is a premier example of Mughal architecture and was the largest mosque in the world upon its completion in 1673. Commissioned by the sixth Mughal Emperor, Aurangzeb, it was constructed in just two years, reflecting the immense resources and artistic prowess of the empire. The mosque is renowned for its striking red sandstone exterior adorned with intricate white marble floral patterns and inlays. Its design features three magnificent white marble domes and four monumental minarets, each rising to a height of over 53 meters. The expansive courtyard can accommodate more than 100,000 worshippers, making it a major spiritual center for centuries. Despite suffering neglect and military use during the Sikh and British eras, extensive restoration projects in the 20th century have preserved its historic grandeur. Today, it remains Pakistan's second-largest mosque and a symbol of the nation's rich Islamic heritage, standing directly opposite the Alamgiri Gate of the Lahore Fort.
