Farsund is situated on the southern coast of Norway and is a historic seafaring town with a prominent maritime legacy. During the Napoleonic Wars between 1807 and 1814, the town became a strategic base for legal privateering, which significantly enriched the local merchants and shipowners. The urban center is characterized by its pleasant white wooden houses, many of which were rebuilt with Art Nouveau influences following a devastating fire in 1901. The nearby Lista peninsula is famous for its unique flat landscapes, sandy beaches, and the iconic Lista Lighthouse, established in 1836. Farsund is also a premier destination for birdwatching, as the wetlands of Lista serve as a vital resting point for migratory birds. Modern-day Farsund relies on the industrial activities in Husøy and a growing tourism sector, highlighted by the annual Kaper Festival that commemorates its privateering history.
