The source of the Babuna River lies high on the flanks of the Jakupica mountains, directly below the majestic Solunska Glava peak. The water emerges here crystal clear from the karstic limestone rocks, forming spectacular waterfalls and rapids in its upper course amidst untouched nature. This headwater area is of crucial importance for regional hydrology, as it feeds one of the cleanest rivers in North Macedonia, which eventually joins the Vardar. The surroundings of the source are characterized by dense forests and rich biodiversity, including rare trout species that thrive in the cool, oxygen-rich waters. Hikers often use the route to the Babuna source as a stopover on their way to the summit, and the scenery is particularly impressive in spring during the snowmelt. The remoteness of the site ensures that the ecological integrity of the source area has remained largely preserved.
