Sassenheim is a historic town in the Teylingen municipality within the province of South Holland, situated in the heart of the famous bulb region (Bollenstreek). The town's history is closely linked to Teylingen Castle, whose 13th-century ruins remain a significant landmark and once served as the residence of Jacqueline of Bavaria. During the 19th century, Sassenheim was transformed by the boom in the tulip and flower bulb trade, which continues to be the economic backbone of the region. Every year, the town is a key point on the route of the Bloemencorso, a world-famous parade of decorated flower floats. In addition to the flower industry, Sassenheim was historically known for its textile manufacturing. Today, the town serves as a modern residential area with excellent links to the cities of Leiden and Amsterdam, while maintaining its cultural heritage and the easy on the eye landscape of the surrounding flower fields.
