Zwijndrecht is strategically located in the province of South Holland, at the confluence point of the Noord, Oude Maas, and Beneden-Merwede rivers. This so-called 'three-river point' is one of the busiest shipping routes in the Netherlands and defines the city's industrial character. Zwijndrecht is an important part of the Drechtsteden, a group of cities that cooperate closely in economy and infrastructure. The economy is dominated by the shipping industry, chemical industry, and horticulture. Despite its industrial focus, Zwijndrecht also gives green spaces and recreational opportunities, such as the Noordpark. The city is an excellent starting point to observe the dynamics of Dutch inland shipping. Culinarily, you'll find a mix of traditional Dutch cuisine and international offerings. A walk along the river provides impressive views of the passing ships and the nearby historic city of Dordrecht. Getting to Zwijndrecht is easy. The city has a train station with good connections to Rotterdam and Dordrecht. A special way to travel is the 'Waterbus', a fast ferry service that connects Zwijndrecht with Rotterdam, Dordrecht, and other places in the region. The best time to visit is from spring to autumn, when the weather is pleasant for bike tours and walks along the rivers.
