Schijndel, now part of the municipality of Meierijstad in North Brabant, is a town with a rich history and an eye for the future. It played a significant role in Operation Market Garden during World War II, commemorated by numerous monuments and a museum. A modern landmark is the Glass House (De Glazen Boerderij), an impressive building by architect Winy Maas (MVRDV), whose facade is a photographic collage of a typical local farmhouse. Inside, it houses shops, restaurants, and offices. Schijndel is also known for its wool industry past and its lively center with a variety of shops. The surroundings, characterized by the Dommel river valley, offer beautiful cycling and hiking trails. In one of the cozy restaurants, try a 'Brabants worstenbroodje'. Schijndel is easily accessible by car or bus from 's-Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven. The best time to visit is from spring to autumn.
