's-Hertogenbosch, commonly referred to as Den Bosch, is the capital of the province of North Brabant and one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, having received city rights in 1185. The city is world-renowned as the birthplace of the visionary 15th-century painter Hieronymus Bosch, whose surreal masterpieces are celebrated at the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center. The centerpiece of the historic district is the Saint John's Cathedral, a magnificent example of late Gothic architecture famous for its ornate sculptures and unique flying buttress statues.
