Ondangwa is a historic trading town in the Oshana Region of northern Namibia and was historically the administrative center of Ovamboland. The settlement grew around a Finnish mission station established in the late 19th century, quickly evolving into a hub for commerce and education. Today, Ondangwa is a major transportation center featuring an airport that serves both civilian and logistical needs for the northern part of the country. The extension of the northern railway line from Tsumeb to Ondangwa in 2006 further strengthened the town's economic position and its link to the Atlantic coast. The local economy is driven by spirited retail, cross-border trade with Angola, and artisanal industries. Despite rapid urbanization, Ondangwa retains many elements of Oshiwambo culture, visible in daily life and local markets. Along with Oshakati and Ongwediva, it forms the economic heart of Namibia's most populous area.
